19 Feb How to make the most of your pool season…
As pool season nears, most people ask what they can do to get the most out of their pool season. Especially with the weather in Kentucky, you never know what you’re going to get. A pool heater is the perfect way to extend your pool season earlier in spring and later in fall.
GAS HEATERS
These heaters use natural gas or propane to heat water. They have a lower upfront cost and can heat to temperatures quickly. Natural Gas Heaters are typically a few dollars cheaper to run per hour vs Propane Heaters. Depending on where you live, natural gas can cost about 84% less than propane gas.
PROS:
- Lower upfront cost
- Works in any temperature
- Heats pool water quickly
CONS:
- Higher utility cost
- More moving parts compared to heat pump
HEAT PUMPS
These use the ambient air surrounding the unit to heat your pool. The air passes over an evaporator coil using heated refrigerant to heat water returning into your pool. Heat pumps typically cost somewhere around 63 cents an hour to run which is a fraction of gas.
PROS:
- Lower run cost
- Energy Efficient
CONS:
- Higher upfront cost
- Doesn’t run below 50 degrees
Both types of heaters can be a good solution for pool owners. You would need to weigh how you want to heat the pool to determine which is best for you. If you want to heat the pool earlier in the spring and later in the fall, with quicker heat times, a gas heater would be your choice. If you want to heat the pool efficiently and save money on energy costs, a heat pump might be your best option!
