27 Mar THE ACCURACY OF TEST STRIPS- BENEFITS AND DRAWBACKS
Test strips are a super convenient for testing your water chemistry. But are they good at testing the pool chemistry? Not really. It really depends on what you are testing for. Pool water test strips are great for quick testing to verify if there is any sanitizer in the water or not. They are also good for a very rough estimate of the pH, Alkalinity and Calcium Hardness levels in the water. At best test strips are good for approximating the pH levels in the pool.
In addition to being not-so-great at determining pH, test strips also rely on the ability of the tester to judge specific color differences – especially in the yellow and red spectrums. It is really challenging to determine if the pH is a 7.2 or 7.4 just by looking at the color on the test strip. Since not every person has the same level of color differentiation this can lead to misinterpretation of the test results.
